The 17th CODATA-DSAO Task Group Conference in China
The 17th CODATA DSAO Conference was held in Beijing on Oct 21, 2006. This conference included four sessions:
- Data activity reports from member countries
- Data on natural disasters
- Data on Biodiversity
- DSAO 2004-2006 activities and future plans.
There were more than 20 participants from China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, India and Indonesia, Philippines who made 12 presentations.
This conference provides participants a good opportunity to share their experience on nature disaster and biodiversity research. On this meeting, participants report the research progress in their counties and discussed some hot topics like typhoon controlling, gene project in nature disaster and biodiversity research area.
On the topic of how to promote data sharing and application in Asian-Oceanic countries, participants agreed that the following measures would be helpful to fulfill this goal.

To study the policy of data sharing in each county

To create a cooperating mechanism for IT people and research area specialists

To investigate separated data sources in these countries

To integrate separated database and information systems

Based on these databases, to develop some test systems to find an efficient way of how to use these existing data
